Port Orange is ideally situated just minutes from some of central Florida’s most famous attractions. Locally, there are ten acres of historical and botanical gardens in Port Orange that have been listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The gardens and ruins of an old sugar mill date back to the 1840s, long before Port Orange became a town. Port Orange is located along the Halifax River, so there are plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities available, like fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing and jet skiing. Or, you can enjoy hiking and biking along the Spruce Creek Preserve. Port Orange has four lovely golf courses, from amateur to championship, including an 18 hole, par 72 course that is considered one of the best public golf facilities in East Central Florida. If you love shopping, you’ll love Port Orange. The city has ten major shopping centers and several smaller specialty shops with everything from art and household items to exotic flowers for sale. Port Orange also offers more than 50 restaurants with fantastic seafood and almost any other kind of cuisine you might be craving.

If you're looking for a day of fun and sun at the beach, Port Orange is just a short drive from Daytona and the “World’s Most Famous Beach.” Walk, bike or even drive your car on the breathtaking 500-foot wide beach. Daytona Beach has 23 miles of white sandy beach, lots of nightlife, museums, specialty shops and restaurants. There are almost unlimited activities to enjoy such as swimming, beachcombing, sandcastle building, sailing, jet skiing, fishing, boating, biking, and golf. The city’s famous pier and oceanside boardwalk is lined with a multitude of restaurants, bars and shops. Of course, Daytona Beach has been a destination for racing enthusiasts since the early 1900s when automobiles first raced on the beach. Today, hundreds of thousands of race fans come to Daytona Beach, home of NASCAR, for the Daytona 500, and many other races throughout the year. Volusia County’s Sun Splash Park is also located in Daytona Beach and features an interactive water fountain, a shaded playground, picnic areas, beach access, volleyball courts and a special “cool zone.” Entry is free to this park

Other attractions in the Port Orange area include the Peabody Auditorium or the Museum of Arts and Science, Walt Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios and Epcot Center, the Marine Science Center, the Museum of Arts and Sciences, the Ponce de Leon Lighthouse & Museum and more. From May 15 through October 31, the Port Orange area beaches host an unusual marine attraction - the sea turtle. These magnificent animals emerge from the surf at night to lay their eggs in nests dug into the dry sand, then return to the sea. Two months later, about a hundred baby turtles (hatchlings) emerge from each of these nests and crawl to the ocean. Beach driving and parking is prohibited west of an established dune conservation zone and beachfront lighting at night is limited to protect these creatures.
